Three Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers are out on a week-long training to the United States on handling Homicide related cases.

The trio, Fredrick Odemba, Vincent Langat and Patrick Wachira drawn from the DCI’s Homicide Department were selected for the programme scheduled to take place in New Orleans, Louisiana, which is organised by International Homicide Investigators Association (IHIA).

According to the DCI report, the international programme for specialised sleuths seeks to equip its officers with professional skills for handling death crimes that have been rampant in the country.

“The training has brought together an elite group of professionals, from around the world, representing all death investigation disciplines,” read the statement by the DCI on Sunday.

“IHIA’s membership includes highly respected death and homicide investigators, criminal behaviourists, forensic scientists, crime scene technicians, crime and intelligence analysts, and others, many of whom are considered among the foremost experts in their respective fields and disciplines.”

DCI underscored the importance of enlisting their personnel in the programme saying it would help in solving many related cases in the country.

“The experience acquired by the detectives in the training, will undoubtedly go a long way in assisting the Directorate to solve homicide cases expeditiously and deliver justice to victims of crime,” stated DCI.

The development comes two months after the government commissioned DCI’s National Forensic lab, in a bid to combat crimes in the digital economy.
