DCI detectives take over probe into killing of Molo activist Richard Otieno
Two days after protests erupted in Elburgon, Molo, following
the murder of activist Richard Otieno, homicide detectives from the Directorate
of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters have taken charge of the probe.
Led by Homicide Director Martin Nyuguto, the team first
visited the scene of the crime where Otieno was clobbered to death by unknown
persons. Otieno met the cruel hand of death just outside his gate.
The detectives later held a meeting with the family where they
assured them of thorough investigations to bring to book the killers.
The family lawyer Roselinda Wamaitha said: “The team has
assured the public that justice will be done and investigations will go on so
we are asking the public to stay vigil as we are heading in the right direction
in this matter.”
Homicide detectives are expected to probe the circumstances
under which Otieno was murdered, the threats he received and also pursue the
three unknown persons who had allegedly trailed him home on Thursday last week
before he was killed on Saturday.
The deceased’s widow Margaret Mwihaki said: "Akiwa almost
kwa gate kuna watu aliwaona watatu wakiwa nyuma yake na walikuwa suspicious.”
Also key in investigations will be the postmortem exercise
expected to be conducted in the course of the week.
Lawyer Wamaitha added: "We are also informed that the
government pathologist very soon will be on the way to make sure postmortem is
conducted…we are happy.”
Earlier on Tuesday morning there was heavy presence of police
in the area after word went round that residents were planning another round of
protests to demand for justice.
