Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has endorsed Rift Valley Regional Commander George Natembeya to run for Trans Nzoia governorship in the 2022 general elections.

DAP-K leaders during a conference in the Western Kenya region on Sunday unveiled the Natembeya as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the oncoming elections.

Speaking at Sikhedu stadium, Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa described Natembeya as the perfect candidate capable of clinching the seat.

Miaka kumi tulikua tumekwama kwa matope ya FORD Kenya, yule anaenda kutukwamua sio mwingine ni nani?" CS Wamalwa posed as the crowd responded with ‘Ni Natembeya’ remarks.

At the same time, the newly formed party allied to the Azimio la Umoja Movement ushered in defectors from FORD Kenya and Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) officials led by Andrew Kutitila.

Natembeya adds to a list of contestants seeking to succeed the current Governor Patrick Khaemba whose two-term reign comes to an end in August this year.

The already declared aspirants are; the County’s Finance Executive Boniface Wanyonyi, Ford Kenya’s Secretary-General Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini MP), Trans-Nzoia Woman Rep Janet Nangabo, former Agriculture Executive Andrew Wanyonyi, businessman Moses Khaoya and Philomen Samoei.

Since its launch in December, DAP-K has continued to urge the OKA leaders from the region (Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula) to unite together in forming the next government.

Mimi nawaambia ndugu yangu Musalia na Weta, mkiendelea kusalia hapo katikati mmesalia, wewe Musalia utasalia nje ya serikali tena. Mara hii ningependa niwe nanyi kwa serikali,” CS Wamalwa said on Sunday.
