Taking to social media after
visiting the NYS Paramilitary Training Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County on
Monday, Ruku shared plans by his ministry to expand the academy.
“Ahead of next year, we intend to have the
paramilitary academy infrastructure expanded to accommodate the additional
numbers,” stated CS Ruku.
CS Ruku, who was inspecting the readiness
of the NYS facilities to train a targeted 40,000 recruits in the upcoming year,
highlighted how critical the paramilitary and technical colleges are, given
their status as part of the nation’s infrastructure.
He further praised the institution’s
contribution to the development of youth in the country.
“The National Youth Service (NYS)
paramilitary and technical colleges are critical infrastructure to the country
due to the contribution to developing young people grounded in respect and
discipline for public service and nation building,” said Ruku.
Aside from the expansion the CS highlighted
plans of his ministry in conjunction with the service and other state
departments and ministries to commercialize the NYS.
Ruku noted that significant progress has
been made by the various stakeholders to make the service self-reliant and have
enhanced capacity.
“The commercial wing of NYS will be
critical in the endeavour of making NYS a financially viable and strong
institution to reduce its dependence on public coffers,” he said.
