Public Service Cabinet
Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has directed Special Programmes Principal Secretary to
convene a multi-agency consultation meeting to discuss urgent mitigation
measures for the ongoing floods and landslides in Nairobi County.
Speaking during a
visit to Drive-In in Ruaraka, where a 23-year-old single mother and her two
young children tragically lost their lives, CS Ruku revealed that 55 households
have been affected, with nearly 200 people displaced.
The CS assured
affected families that the government has already provided relief food and
other essential supplies.
“The State Department
for Special Programmes, the government will continue to take proactive steps to
safeguard the lives and well-being of all Kenyans,” he said.
Ruku further stated
that the government, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, will relocate
people living in high-risk areas to safer locations.
He stressed that this
will be done in a humane manner and in full accordance with the law.
He urged residents in
vulnerable areas to voluntarily move to safer grounds to prevent further loss
of life.
