Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has blasted former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi for allegedly withholding crucial documents under government confidentiality, citing that such actions could attract legal repercussions.

Speaking to the press, the CS explained that Muturi, during his tenure as the Attorney General, swore to confidentiality when handling government documents.

He suspected a sinister motive behind Muturi's intentions to withhold government documents, claiming that in other countries, he could have been behind bars.

During an interview on NTV, Muturi accused President William Ruto of masterminding corrupt deals. He also claimed to have the documents to back his statements, citing that he has the evidence on softcopy.

"The AG at the time said he had kept the documents on email. In another country, he could have been arrested because the principle of how to handle government documents is known," he said.

"The Attorney General handles classified documents, all of them, almost stamped top secret. The objective is that these documents are government documents. For one of them to say, from the time he joined office, he was photocopying documents, it's nauseating because they are not personal documents."

"You swore to confidentiality and could not be having them for two years because you're dealing with corruption. That's not true, he's not the first AG to be fired."

The CS also referenced the 2016 case involving former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who was accused of using her private email to handle work-related matters and thus threatened national security.

"In the US, if those documents are in your email, that's a serious national security. You remember what happened to Hillary Clinton; one of the biggest problems was that she was communicating with her personal email on national security issues," Murkomen said.

The Interior CS also responded to Muturi's claims of his security being withdrawn due to his strenuous relationship with the government.

Murkomen pointed out that it could be a scale down since he was fired as a CS but promised to follow up with the Inspector General over the matter.

"It could be a scale down since he’s no longer a CS. I’ll seek clarification from the IG. We don’t play politics in security matters. It’s a matter for the IG level unless he’s escalating it to reach my level," the CS added.

Earlier, Muturi alleged that his security detail, by virtue of his position as a former National Assembly Speaker, was informed not to report on duty.

“If this is another attempt to intimidate me, they have dialled yet another wrong number," Muturi stated.
