Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has vowed to bring the perpetrators linked to the death of two Chuka town locals to book following a protest which caused the blocking of the Embu- Meru highway at Chuka Town in Tharaka-Nithi County.

The locals took to the streets on Saturday to protest the mysterious death of a local who passed on last week when police officers arrived at the scene and started lobbying teargas to disperse the irate crowd.

In the melee, one person was shot dead which sparked higher tension, extending the fierce running battles between police officers and the locals to late night.

CS Kindiki, in a statement Saturday night, stated that "high-level investigative teams" have been dispatched to Chuka Town to interrogate the matter and apprehend the culprits.

"Any person(s) at whom evidence will point shall face the course of justice," he wrote on Twitter.

The Interior CS further condoled with the families of the deceased, urging residents to maintain calm and pave way for investigations.
