CS Duale orders closure of Kilimani pub Fay’s Bistro over noise pollution
Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on
Sunday ordered popular Nairobi nightclub Fay’s Bistro and Lounge be closed over
noise pollution.
According to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the pub located along Ring Road in Kilimani has on several occasions been served with notices about noise complaints from members of the public.
The government agency said its officers have also inspected the pub over the complaints but it has not complied.
“With immediate effect, the closure order is
hereby issued to operations at your restaurant that prohibits offering
entertainment activities including playing live bands and amplified music
within your business at an existing complex mall,” NEMA Director General Mamo
Mamo said in a letter to one Fayruz Abdi, named as the pub’s director.
“With immediate effect seize the operations
of any form of music and/or any form of entertainment from your restaurant.”
The Nairobi County Government secretary, county
director of environment and the Kilimani OCS (Officer Commanding Station) were
copied in the letter.
CS Duale said NEMA officials and the police
were at the site to enforce the closure, which he said should serve as a stern
warning to all clubs operating in residential areas.
“Any that continue to play loud music will
face the same action. This impunity will not be tolerated,” the minister added in an X post some minutes to 8 p.m.
