CS Duale: Kenyatta family has sent emissaries to Gov't saying they should be left alone
Defence Cabinet
Secretary (CS) Aden Duale now claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta and
his kin have sent emissaries to the President William Ruto-led government seeking to be left alone.
Uhuru’s name has
been in the headlines in recent weeks after a section of Kenya Kwanza politicians
accused the former President of financing the ongoing anti-government protests
led by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga, an
accusation that the former premiere has vehemently denied.
The Kenyatta
family-owned Northlands farm in Ruiru was on Monday likewise invaded by
protestors and a piece of it destroyed during the said protests, bringing the
former Head of State and his family in the public eye once again.
Speaking during an
interview on Spice FM on Friday, CS Duale alleged that Uhuru and his kin now want
to be left out of the limelight after weeks of being the focus of attention.
“They are the
richest family in Africa and they have sent emissaries that the former
President and his family should be left alone,” said Duale.
According to the
Defence CS, the State cannot guarantee that it will leave Uhuru and his family
alone since the current regime might in future have to conduct audits on his
government to determine whether it spent public funds in compliance with
appropriations and relevant laws.
“That guarantee
should be given to ordinary citizens like you and me. If there is an audit
issue for example and it falls within the former administration of Kenyatta,
the public and Parliament institutions will discuss,” said Duale.
“His former
ministers, if they have issues, the independent institutions can still carry.
It happened not only in this presidency but in previous ones such as the NARC
administration.”
Duale similarly
accused Mr. Odinga of fueling the anti-government protests since he allegedly
only wants to be part of the Kenya Kwanza government, but through the backdoor.
