TikToker and blogger Peter Njoroge Njuguna, popularly known as Wamtambo, will remain in custody at Ruiru Police Station for seven more days as investigations into alleged cyber harassment, extortion, and contempt of court continue.
The suspect
appeared virtually before the Ruiru Law Courts, where the investigating officer
successfully applied for a miscellaneous order to detain him for an additional
seven days to allow for further inquiries.
Wamtambo is
accused of using his TikTok platform to publish defamatory content targeting a
Ruiru-based real estate company on multiple occasions.
The firm,
through its lawyer Wangui Kuria, lodged a complaint with the Communications
Authority of Kenya, seeking the removal of the videos from TikTok.
However,
despite securing these orders, the content remains online.
He was
arrested in Bahati, Nakuru County, and later transferred to Ruiru Police
Station for processing and arraignment.
Authorities
say the suspect had earlier been served with court orders barring him from
mentioning the company in his videos, which he allegedly defied.
He now
faces both civil and criminal charges, including contempt of court, cyber
harassment, and extortion.
In the
viral videos published on his “Wamtambo TV” account and seen by Citizen
Digital, the blogger is heard accusing the company of selling public land,
including cemetery property, claims that the firm has strongly denied.
He also
urged his followers not to purchase land from the company, alleging that some
of the plots are located on power line wayleaves.
