Council of Governors set to elect new leadership
The 47 Governors of Kenya are set to elect new leadership to steer the Council of Governors for the next two years.
The county bosses are currently meeting at Safari Park, Nairobi, where they will also consider the new health plan - Social Health Insurance Fund and its rollout in counties.
Here, outgoing chairperson and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru will deliver the State of Nation Address.
Those in the contest for chairperson are; current vice chair Ahmed Abdulahi (Wajir) , Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi) , Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado) and Kajiado governor Johnson Sakaja, who is the only first time governor on the list of those who want the chair position
On the new SHIF, governors previously expressed dissatisfaction for what they termed as sidelining by the national government.
Muthomi Njuki, the outgoing chairperson of COG health committee said that none of the counties had signed an Intergovernmental Participatory Agreement (IPA) with the implementation authority yet most of the health facilities are run by counties.
