Concern as huge pothole hinders plane take off in Lamu

A Jambojet plane that caught stuck in a pothole during take-off at Manda Airport.

Concerns have been raised about the state of the Manda Airport in Lamu County after a plane got stuck in a pothole at the runway, hindering its take-off.

In short undated video clips shared online, a Jambojet plane fully loaded with passengers and ready to take off got stuck in a pothole.

One of the airport workers could be seen trying to refill the pothole with stones and soil to get the plane off.

Passengers in the plane filmed the whole incident, with some even making fun of it despite the glaring danger such an occurrence posed to them and other passengers using the airport.

The incident has raised concerns among Kenyans, with some calling for the closure of the airport until proper repairs are done to the runway and other facilities.

The incident comes two years after Jambojet resumed its flights to Manda Airport, having suspended them in 2017.

During the suspension, Jambojet blamed the move on the poor state of the runway which made it difficult for its large aircraft to land and take off.

It took four years for the Kenya Airways subsidiary to resume the flights, but the latest incident is an indication that nothing much has been done to alleviate the situation.
