Clashes in Majengo leave several injured as tensions soar over a youth's shooting death

By early Wednesday morning, the unrest had escalated, with angry protesters setting fire to a police vehicle and blocking a key road to Eastleigh with stones and burning tires.
The unrest began late Tuesday evening when two undercover officers attempted to pursue a young man believed to be carrying a bag of cannabis (bhang) in the Majengo Gorofani area.
Witnesses say the suspect was aided by a larger group of youths who overpowered the officers by throwing stones and attacking them with crude weapons.
In an effort to free themselves, the officers fired shots into the air.
Amid the chaos, a young man was shot and rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
The situation took a tragic turn early Wednesday morning when the injured victim, who was also reportedly the suspect carrying the cannabis, died at around 3:15 a.m. in the hospital. News of his death quickly spread, igniting renewed outrage among local residents.
By morning, angry youths had barricaded roads around the Shauri Moyo and Majengo areas with stones and burning tires.
The protests turned destructive as three unihut houses belonging to Kamukunji Administration Police Service (APS) officers were set ablaze, forcing the police to evacuate them from the area.
In addition, a police vehicle belonging to Shauri Moyo Police Station, registration GK B 700 U, was torched by the enraged crowd.
The unrest escalated further with the discovery of a second body early Wednesday morning.
The victim, found in a dark alley around Shauri Moyo, had sustained a fatal knife wound, deepening the sense of fear and tension gripping the neighborhood.
Although the area is currently described as calm, the atmosphere remains tense, with a heavy police presence deployed to prevent further violence.
Community leaders are urging for restraint and dialogue, appealing to both law enforcement and residents to avoid further bloodshed and work toward a peaceful resolution.
