Civil Society urges Kenyans not to be divided by AUC elections outcome

Members of the civil society who observed the just-concluded African Union Commission (AUC) elections in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia have urged Kenyans to remain united despite the outcome.

The group weighed on the ongoing debate regarding Kenya's performance in the polls where Raila Odinga lost to Djibouti's Ali Mahmoud Yousouf, saying it was not the first time the country lost the seat.

The CSOs who were part of the AUC Observer team in Ethiopia, said president William Ruto played his part, though they believe the govt could have performed better had they started early enough to deliver Odinga's win.

Led by Suba Churchill of Kenya National Civil Society Centre, they have however, called on the govt and country at large to draw lessons from the contest for future bids.

They say this is not the time to trade barbs and blame games but to grow from the experience.

In 2017, then CS for foreign Affairs Amina Mohamed while seeking the same seat lost to the outgoing AUC chairperson Mousa Faki.
