Ciku Muiruri's kidnapped daughter, friend rescued after 8 days, two arrested
The two, who were kidnapped at Rhapta road in Westlands by a taxi driver were found 'visibly weak and shaken' in a one-room house in Mang'u, Gatundu North Constituency, police said.
DCI detectives from Thika West stormed the house, rescued the women and arrested two suspects Timothy Kiragu Ng'ang'a (34) and Samuel Kipkurui (33) at Ngoigwa area in Thika.
“Upon conducting a quick search, a recovery of Erica Njeri's phone was done wrapped in a foil paper. After they were interviewed, they led detectives to Mang'u Gatukuyu area in Gatundu North where they had rented a single room and kept the victims,” a police report said.
The kidnappers had demanded a Ksh.250,000 ransom from both parents. The girls are believed to have been fed mandazi and water.
Assorted crude weapons and fake motor-vehicle number plates were recovered from the suspects.
"But when the ride arrived along Rhapta road in Westlands and they got in, the driver threatened them using a hammer before speeding off towards Thika," read a Monday report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Hours after they had been kidnapped, Ciku Muiruri took to Facebook to share the harrowing story of how her daughter Erica and her friend Shanice were abducted by a taxi driver.
"...I have a very special favour to ask each and every one of you. In the early hours of Sunday morning (2am), my daughter and a friend of hers were abducted by a taxi driver," she wrote.
She is yet to update on the successful return of her child and her friend.
