Cholera scare in Isiolo as one child dies, 6 others hospitalised
Residents of Mwangaza area in Isiolo Town are now a worried lot following a cholera scare that has already claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy.
Reports indicate that seven others including the child’s mother are admitted to the Isiolo Referral Hospital with similar symptoms of acute diarrhea and vomiting.
Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti, who is also a medical doctor and chairs the Governor’s Health committee, however maintains that they are yet to be ascertained whether the disease is indeed cholera.
He said medical samples have been taken to the National Public Health Laboratory Services for examination and diagnosis.
Residents are still expected to uphold personal hygiene by regularly washing their hands with soap especially before meals and after toilet use, Dr. Kuti said.
“Ensure that you boil water before drinking and always eat warm food to avoid any health risk,” he said, adding that those who notice warning signs similar to those infected should rush to the nearest health facility.
