Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria is once again in the limelight after telling Kenyans to drill their own oil wells instead of lamenting about the high cost of fuel.

In a video clip that surfaced online on Saturday of Kuria speaking at the University of Eldoret on Friday, the vocal CS told off the government critics decrying the cost of living saying it was a global issue.

He narrowed down to the recent increase in fuel prices by EPRA on Thursday and blatantly asked the critics to dig their own oil wells if they so wish to lower their cost of living.

According to the former Gatundu South MP, it is of little consequence to keep on lamenting about the cost of living when there is nothing much that can be done.

"Ukishinda asubuhi mpaka jioni , bei ya mafuta imeongezeka, si uchimbe kisima yako? Wale watu wa makelele kama wakona kisima, niko tayari kuchimba kesho,” he said.

“Watu wanaongea siku hizi juu ya kuteremsha bei ya maisha. Bei ya gharama ya maisha haiwezi kuteremshwa kwa maandamano. Wengine wanashinda kwa Twitter kutoka asubuhi mpaka jioni…si hio ni upumbavu?”

Kuria added: “Dunia nzima tunajua bei ya crude oil imeenda juu…mambo ile hatuwezi ndio watu wanalalamika. Sisi kwetu Ruiru tunaendelea kufanya kazi kwa bidii.”

The sentiments by the CS did not sit well with Kenyans, who took to social media to blast him for mocking the current dire situation.

The unrelenting CS would on Saturday take to Twitter to reiterate his recent remarks to urge the public to tighten their belts and be ready for even higher prices at the pump in the coming months.

A seemingly unmoved CS Kuria would go further to scoff at those criticizing him saying they can do whatever they want but that is the bitter truth.

“I repeat. Petrol will be Ksh.260 by February. El Nino is coming in 3 weeks and will last till March. These are global and climate change-driven. Responsible leaders ought to tell the truth to prepare the people. You can throw stones at me all you want,” he wrote.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Thursday announced that Super Petrol prices have now increased by Ksh.16.96, Diesel by Ksh.21.32, while Kerosene climbs the highest by Ksh.33.13 per litre.
