Yearning for results? Chebukati has until Monday to declare Presidential results
IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati said during a press briefing on Wednesday that the commission will not release the results on Wednesday.
“The issue of declaring results, that will not happen today. We have seven days to do that,” said Chebukati.
The law gives IEBC up to seven days from the date of elections to announce and declare the outcome but he assured that the electoral body is working hard to deliver the election results "in the shortest time frame."
Chebukati: “As the national returning officer, I’m assuring you that we shall do everything to have this process concluded earliest possible.”
The IEBC chair also acknowledged having received 97.65% of Form 34A's as of 2:30pm Wednesday.
Chebukati said the total number of polling stations that have submitted their forms are 45,141 from a total of 46,229.
In spite of that, he noted that the forms are only for presidential tallies, adding that the commission does not have the physical forms as they received the submissions in image forms.
"Results transmission of the forms from polling stations is ongoing and we will address you as we receive more," he said.
Chebukati went on to affirm that the commission is upholding transparency and that all numbers recorded in the forms are the ones to be used in announcing the Presidential winner.
"We assure Kenyans that there are no other results other than the ones we have on the portal," he added.
