In a statement through her social media platforms, Charlene said she is not only shocked, but also disturbed and saddened by the recent femicide incidents that have left several women dead.
"As a young woman, I am appalled, shocked, disturbed and saddened by the regularity of the extreme gender based violence incidents that have occurred in the recent days," she said.
Charlene went on to blast a section of society whom she said have portrayed a backward attitude towards this matter, adding that it is 'dangerous for the future of our younger sisters, daughters, our young women and the population at large'.
"I appreciate our security forces, advocacy groups and citizens of goodwill for the quick reactions in spotlighting and taking proactive steps to discourage these inexcusable behaviours," she further said.
Her sentiments come days after hundreds of people marched in the streets of Nairobi and other towns to condemn the cold blood murder of young women in short-term rental houses.
The protests were as a result of recent high profile femicide incidents, where two women were brutally killed in short-term rentals by people they met online.
Starlet Wahu was stabbed to death in a short-term rental in South B by a suspect identified as John Matara. The suspect is in police custody.
Days later, Rita Waeni, a first year student at JKUAT was brutally murdered and her head decapitated by a person she met on Instagram.
Waeni's head could be found days later dumped in a dam in Kiambu. Two Nigerian suspects are in custody, as detectives hunt for her killer.
