Changes in Ruto, Uhuru official motorcade show who's boss

President Uhuru Kenyatta's tenure came to an end on September 13 at 12:47 PM as William Ruto assumed office as the fifth commander-in-chief of the republic of Kenya.

During the event full of pomp and colour, a huge yet rare transition process was witnessed in the full-to-capacity Moi International Sports arena, Kasarani.

Uhuru arrived in a presidential convoy but at the close of the event, he left as a regular citizen with the title of retired president. He came with an aide-de-camp Brigadier Timothy Stelu Lekolool but left without him after he switched to President Ruto's side after the instruments of power changed hands

In the Tuesday event, Kenyatta graced the event with his official motorcade comprising an elite team of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), General Service Unit (GSU), RECCE Company and the presidential escort.

The fleet had a number good number of vehicles and motorcycles that led him to Kasarani.

After the ex-president handed his instruments of power to his successor, the transition elements went to play almost immediately; from the security teams to all protocols, changes were effected in favour of President Ruto.

Having arrived in the stadium with fewer, less eminent convoys, President Ruto departed the event enjoying the full benefits of a sitting president.

For instance, the two RECCE teams; the first team being headed by the local traffic base commander led the way a few minutes ahead of the main motorcade to ensure roads are cleared ahead of the presidential motorcade.

The second team, RECCE 2 comprising the command car, presidential head commander and others close to the presidential protection team followed.

The aforementioned vehicles could easily be identified due to their unique red-coloured number plates written ‘Presidential Escort’.

Kenyans were treated to a surprise at the conclusion of the event when they saw Kenyatta depart with his new fleet consisting of mostly Land Cruiser models of cars with civilian number plates.

On the contrary, President Ruto first boarded the popular ceremonial land cruiser and toured the stadium as he interacted with civilians amid heavy security deployment.

Thereafter, the new head of state left the stadium in the presidential motorcade as cheers from the public filled the air.
