CGIAR to host the inaugural Science Week to promote sustainable food systems

CGIAR, the world's largest publicly-funded research partnership dedicated to securing a food, nutrition, and climate-safe future, is set to host its inaugural Science Week.

This event will be held from 1st to 5th July 2024 at the United Nations Campus in Nairobi, Kenya.

CGIAR Science Week convenes experts and leaders in agriculture and climate to inspire action for sustainable food systems.

This inaugural event features interactive sessions, workshops, and keynote presentations aimed at promoting global collaboration and innovation.

As climate change increasingly disrupts global food, land, and water systems, the need for sustainable solutions has become critical.

CGIAR Science Week aims to tackle these pressing challenges by bringing together leading scientists, policymakers, industry experts, and advocates from across the globe.

“With science, we can reimagine a sustainable and healthy future for people and the planet," said Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, CGIAR Executive Managing Director.

“At the inaugural CGIAR Science Week, we will unite the people, ideas, and innovations necessary to make this ambition a reality.”

Key activities during the event will include consultations on CGIAR’s proposed research programs for 2025-2030, providing a unique opportunity to shape scientific responses to urgent global challenges.

The event highlights include keynote speeches and panel discussions with leading experts in agriculture, climate science, and food security.

Attendees can participate in Science Talks and workshops that showcase top-tier research and innovations in food, land, and water systems. There will be an exhibition that will highlight game-changing innovations that benefit producers and consumers worldwide.

Additionally, there will be field visits to CGIAR and partner labs and research stations, providing a glimpse of science in action. Participants will also have ample networking opportunities to establish meaningful and mission-driven partnerships.

The event will feature an impressive lineup of speakers, including representatives from the Government of Kenya, the African Union, the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Key CGIAR speakers include Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, Chair of the CGIAR System Board, and the Directors General of all CGIAR research centers.
