Cartoonist Kibet Bull freed two weeks after abduction
Kibet was abducted by suspected security officials on December 24, 2024, shortly after meeting Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah at the latter’s office in Nairobi.
Kibet announced his release via social media platform X, revealing that he was dumped in the Luanda area of Vihiga County around 3-4 a.m. on Monday.
Stranded and unsure of his next steps, he reportedly attended a local "disco matanga" (overnight funeral dance) before booking a bus ticket home.
His release marks the fifth case of missing persons suddenly reappearing in different parts of the country, raising questions about the ongoing abductions.
On Monday morning, families of Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, and Rony Kiplangat reported contact with their loved ones. Mwangi and Muteti have already reunited with their families.
Citizen Digital established that Kiplangat, abducted in Nairobi, was found in Machakos County, while Kavuli, abducted in Ngong, was discovered in Kitale.
The National Police Service (NPS) also issued a statement on Monday addressing the spate of missing persons.
According to the NPS, three individuals—Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, and Rony Kiplangat—have returned safely to their families. These cases had been reported at Embu Police Station, Kabete Police Station, and Thogoto Police Post, respectively.
Additionally, Bernard Kavuli, previously reported missing at Ngong Police Station, presented himself at Moi’s Bridge Police Station, where he is now assisting investigators.
