Call for end to doctors strike, dialogue as Christians mark Palm Sunday

In Mombasa, the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops Chair, Martin Kivuva, led thousands of Catholic faithful from Our Lady of Africa Church. He emphasized the importance of dialogue between the government and the doctors’ union to end the strike affecting medical care accessibility.

Kivuva stressed, "Dialogue is always the best, and we urge the government not to be adamant. So, we want you to be able to talk, and we want our hospitals to return to normalcy, with medicine and nurses. It's important to understand that life is precious."

Meanwhile, in Nakuru, Catholic Bishop Cleophas Oseso called on the government to address the banditry menace in the North Rift, citing Jesus's message of peace.

Oseso expressed concern for those affected, insisting, "We must reach out to them too. And we are not satisfied with what is happening, and we would like those involved to make every effort to ensure there is lasting peace there because that's why, as Kenyans, we pay taxes so that the government can also look into their security."

Similar sentiments echoed across various regions. In Kiambu County, Anglican Church clergy emphasized the need for love among Kenyans, while in Nyeri, Catholic Archbishop Antony Muheria led a procession in Embu County.

Reflecting on the significance of Palm Sunday, Muheria urged, "As we gather here, let us use this Palm Sunday for our youth to become our hope, that the world can hope that tomorrow is better because we have these young people."

Additionally, in Kisii County, Catholics were encouraged to remain united and spread messages of peace and goodwill.

Meanwhile, in Molo, leaders were urged to embrace humility in leadership.

Michael Bogita, Father in Charge of Kisii Town Parish, emphasized, "If you have a spirit like that, you can join us, help those who are in need and nearby you."

Similarly, Evans Njogu of Molo Catholic Church, reflected, "We celebrate Jesus the King entering Jerusalem on a donkey, and the donkey is a humble animal."

As Christians observed Palm Sunday, the waving of palm tree branches symbolized Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem before his crucifixion a week later.
