Busia: Woman seeks justice after being assaulted by husband
A 42-year-old woman in Busia is seeking justice after her
husband allegedly assaulted her on Saturday leaving her with significant
injuries.
Metrine Okumu was admitted to the Busia
County and Referral Hospital where she is nursing injuries. She claims this is not the
first time her husband has assaulted her.
She claimed that her husband and his
alleged mistress poured alcohol on her and pounded on her.
“I went to ask him about food, and he was seated
down with another lady drinking alcohol. They took the alcohol, poured it on me,
and then began to beat me,” she said.
Okumu wants her husband to be arrested and fully
prosecuted.
Human Rights activists in Busia have
condemned the incident. They claim that the police do not take domestic
violence cases seriously.
“The police do not treat the beating of the
mothers as serious. But when they see someone beaten up to the point where they
are bleeding, and the station where she was being beaten the men were there. No
one came to her rescue,” stated one activist.
This incident occurred a day after the world had come together to celebrate International Women’s Day.
