Buru Buru Girls dormitory fire: 59 students hospitalised, in stable condition

59 students from the Buru Buru girls are currently receiving treatment for smoke inhalation at the Metropolitan Hospital in


Nairobi, following a fire incident at the school that began around 5pm on Sunday. 


Thirty others were also treated at the same facility and discharged. 


“Early this evening we were informed that Buruburu Girls HS dormitory was on fire,” the Hospital Tweeted on Sunday. 


“Our medical teams responded swiftly. We triaged students & identified that around 50 required immediate medical attention,” 


“Our team of trauma and emergency medicine have stabilized and discharged a total of 30 students already. We remain committed to the safety of our communities,” the Metropolitan Hospital said on Sunday. 


Buru Buru Police Chief Francis Kamau who confirmed the incident said the students who were rushed to hospital complained of breathing difficulties. 


Earlier, one of the dormitories at the school was reported to be on fire, with several videos shared online showing several students in uniform jumping off the burning building.
