Two brothers drown in Lake Victoria

Two brothers drown in Lake Victoria

A family from Mageta Island in Bondo, Siaya County is in mourning following the death of their two sons who drowned in the waters of Lake Victoria on Tuesday evening.

Dedan Omondi Damai and Wycliffe Onyango Damai are said to have gone for a routine fishing expedition near Sirongo beach when their boat capsized owing to strong winds.

According to Julius Odembo, the chairman of Sika Beach, the two brothers had finished casting their nets and were returning to the lake shore when they met their untimely demise.

Odembo told Radio Ramogi that other fishermen attempted to rescue the brothers after realising that their boat had capsized but their efforts proved futile.

He likewise appealed to fishermen operating in the area to retrieve the bodies of the pair, should they come across them, so that brothers can be laid to rest.

He said this as he urged the Siaya County government to offer assistance in retrieving the duo's bodies.
