The British High Commission in Nairobi on Wednesday announced the opening of the 2024 Chevening scholarships, inviting interested Kenyans who would want to study in the United Kingdom to try their luck.

The popular programme has benefited over 57,000 professionals since its inception in 1983, according to the British High Commission, while more than 700 Kenyans have been awarded the scholarship, supporting them to succeed in governance, finance, media, technology and policy fields.

Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals from diverse backgrounds who can demonstrate the commitment and skills needed to become future leaders. Applicants must have a realistic and achievable idea to create positive change in their country and be able to demonstrate how a UK master’s degree will help them bring their idea to life.

The scholarship offers full financial support for scholars to pursue any eligible master’s degree at over 150 UK universities, along with access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.

Neil Wigan, the British High Commissioner to Kenya said: “If you are passionate about driving change, whether locally or globally, if you want to be the best at what you do and you have the imagination to inspire others, then you should choose Chevening. I want to see Kenyans from all walks of life and all parts of the country apply for this fantastic opportunity and join the strong network of over 700 Kenyans occupying various top positions across all sectors in Kenya. If you have the ambition to become a future leader, apply today.”

The 2023 Kenyan Chevening Scholar John Orimbo, who is studying a master’s in education (inclusion and disability) at the University of Birmingham, said. “So far, my stay in the UK has been nothing but a truly profound experience that has left an indelible mark on my life. I have made many remarkable new friends and I’ve travelled to different cities and areas of interest to continue documenting.

The applications close on November 5 2024.
