Boost for Kwale farmers as county distributes 5,000 coconut seedlings

Addressing residents during the ceremony, Governor Achani underscored the importance of timely planting and proper nurturing of the seedlings to maximize their growth potential. She emphasized the critical role of agriculture in ensuring food security and economic stability in the region.
The launch event, held at the Kwale County headquarters, marks a significant milestone in efforts to bolster the agricultural sector. Under this program, the seedlings will be allocated to nine wards, with each ward receiving 555 seedlings.
Addressing residents during the ceremony, Governor Achani underscored the importance of timely planting and proper nurturing of the seedlings to maximize their growth potential. She emphasized the critical role of agriculture in ensuring food security and economic stability in the region.
"To achieve a food-secure Kwale, we must fully utilize our available resources, including these coconut seedlings. I urge all farmers to take their agricultural responsibilities seriously," said Achani.
In addition, the governor reassured farmers that all county-owned tractors facing mechanical challenges would be repaired to facilitate land preparation and boost productivity. This commitment is part of broader efforts to enhance mechanized farming in the county.
Local leaders present at the event threw their support behind the initiative, calling for increased youth participation in agriculture. Tsimba/Golini MCA Mwachuo Mwaboza reiterated the importance of farming, noting that agriculture remains the backbone of Kenya’s economy.
"The county government has made substantial investments in agriculture. Let’s make good use of these farm inputs to increase productivity and improve our livelihoods," Mwaboza stated.
Echoing similar sentiments, Karama Pore, Chair of the Agriculture Committee in Tsimba/Golini Ward, expressed gratitude to the county government for its continued support of the sector. He highlighted the economic importance of coconut farming in the coastal region and urged residents to prioritize planting rather than cutting down coconut trees for construction purposes.
"Coconut is the cash crop of the coastal region. We must protect and expand our coconut farming rather than depleting these valuable resources," Pore emphasized.
This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the livelihoods of Kwale farmers by increasing coconut production, a key driver of the county’s economy. The beneficiary wards include Tsimba/Golini, Mkongani, Kubo South, Ramisi, Kinondo, Bongwe/Gombato, Vanga, Dzombo, and Pongwe/Kikoneni.
The county government remains committed to supporting farmers with necessary resources to improve agricultural output and foster economic growth in the region.
