Bomet County Assembly votes to impeach three CECs
The Bomet County Assembly on Friday voted to impeach
three County Executive Committee (CEC) members on charges including gross
violation of the Constitution, abuse of office and incompetence.
The trio comprise; CEC for Finance, ICT and Economic
Planning Andrew Sigei, CEC for Roads, Transport and Public Works Eric Kipkoech
Ngetich and their Administration, Public Service and Special Programmes counterpart
Dr. Joseph Kipngetich Kirui
An Adhoc committee was formed to investigate the
allegations made against the three.
A total of 29 out of 38 members supported the Adhoc
Committee's recommendations regarding CEC Sigei, who was found guilty of gross
violation of the Constitution and incompetence. The motion for his removal was
tabled by Kimulot MCA Eric Kirui.
Similarly, 29 out of 38 Bomet County Assembly
members voted for the ouster of Roads CEC Ngetich who was found culpable on two
counts of gross violation of the constitution and abuse of office. His impeachment
motion was tabled by MCA Josphat Kipkirui who sought his removal on similar
grounds.
A similar number of county assembly members voted
for the removal of CEC Kirui who was found guilty on all counts of
constitutional violations, abuse of office, and incompetence. Nominated MCA
Vincent Mutai tabled his impeachment motion.
The trio did not attend the impeachment motion
hearing and were represented by their lawyer, Desmond Leteipa.
