Body of 55-year-old man found dumped on roadside in Kirinyaga
Shock
has engulfed Kirwarwa village in Mutithi, Kirinyaga County after a 55-year-old
man was found dead on the roadside early Sunday morning.
The man
identified as Bernard Mwai was a mason. His
brother, Festus Maina, told Citizen Digital he was called and told his brother's
body was lying along the road in a shop wearing only trousers.
“I
was shocked to see my brother dead with only a trouser where his jacket and a
gumboot were two kilometres away,” Maina said.
The rea
Nyumba Kumi elder Peter Mwangi asked authorities to move swiftly and
investigate the matter, as well as recent cases of insecurity and livestock
theft in the area.
“There
has been a lot of insecurity in this area and Sunday services have been paralysed
as a result,” Mwangi said. “Very many cows have been stolen from our sheds.”
Mwangi
said Friday night, four suspected cattle thieves escaped death by a whisker
after irate Ngomongo villagers in Kirwarwa set ablaze a vehicle they were
allegedly using to ferry stolen livestock.
Mwea-west
Sub-county Deputy Police Commander Sammy Beauttah said they have launched
investigations into the death.
“Right
now, we cannot tell whether the man was killed although his body and clothes
were over two kilometres apart as there are no signs of struggle unless we wait
for the post-mortem,” Beauttah said.
The post-mortem
will be conducted Monday, according to the deceased’s family.
