Baringo: Man sentenced to 15 years in jail for defiling 8-year-old daughter

A 42-year-old man from Bepyemit village in Baringo County has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for defiling his 8-year-old daughter.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), the accused, who is the biological father of the minor, is said to have committed the offence multiple times in 2024 after visiting his wife.

Appearing before Kabarnet Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate P. Koskey, the court heard that the accused would often pretend to be taking his child out shopping, only to take advantage of her.

“The accused, the child’s biological father, visited the victim’s mother under the pretext of taking the child out to buy slippers. He then spent the night with the minor at his rented residence in Kabartonjo, where the crime was committed,” ODPP stated.

During the hearing, the prosecution presented six witnesses, including the minor and medical reports, to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. Forensic evidence also established the offence of incest.

Magistrate Koskey, in her judgement, emphasised the gravity of the crime and highlighted the severe psychological harm inflicted on the child, stressing the need to impose a strong barrier to prevent such cases from happening.
