Babu Owino taken to Milimani Court, Nairobi
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has now been presented at the Milimani Law Court.
The MP had been detained at the Nairobi Area Traffic Police
Headquarters.
According
to his lawyer Duncan Okatch, Babu was taken to Wang’uru police station in Kirinyaga after his arrest. He was
expected to be arraigned at Wang’uru court, but that did not happen.
Instead, he
was driven to Nairobi Area on Thursday afternoon.
"We
actually went there (Wang’uru) yesterday and it was so bad, they could not
allow anyone near the gate. They dispersed everyone including the
lawyers," Okatch said
"Instead
of taking him to the law courts there they have actually have brought him to
Nairobi and at a speed of around 220km/hour.”
The lawyer
says they have not been told why they arrested the MP, adding that his health
is not okay.
"He is
in custody illegally as per the constitution, we are waiting to be given an
opportunity to see him, we hope that he will be arraigned in court and that his
rights will be upheld,' he said
On
Wednesday, lawyer Danstan Omari filed an application to have Babu produced in
court.
