Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino
now claims he would presently be serving the country as a Cabinet Secretary had Azimio la Umoja One
Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga won the August presidential
elections.
According to the MP, he would be reading from
a totally different script if Mr. Odinga was sitting at the helm of the
nation's leadership, proposing that he would have been allotted either the Education
or Interior ministries to steer.
"Personally, I knew that I would not be
sitting in this office today. Right now I would be serving Kenyans at a
different level as a Cabinet Secretary either for Interior or Education but
look at me now," he said during an interview with NTV.
"I promised the residents of Embakasi
East that I was going to give them jobs. Some were going to work in Garissa,
some in Kisumu, Nyeri and others remain in Nairobi."
In the interview, Mr. Owino claimed that the
Azimio team relied too much on the outgoing leadership steered by former President
Uhuru Kenyatta to deliver victory and failed to pull their own weight to claim the top
spot at the polls.
"This election we cannot blame Kenya
Kwanza, we have to blame ourselves within our house. That is where the problem started,"
he said.
In the same breath, he claimed that there was
an elaborate plan to guarantee the Azimio coalition a win but impediments such
as mismanagement of funds for party agents by a few people rocked the boat.
"There were agents in Central but they
withdrew from work. They were told that they were going to be paid in batches
at different times in different proportions. They were to be sent money in the
morning, afternoon, and at the time of counting,” said the outspoken legislator.
"But in the morning, intentionally, no
money was sent. As an agent, you will leave because you have been duped. They
were not paid and the person who was to pay them was not from our side."
Azimio's loss has since seen a few of its
fierce supporters blaming each other for the defeat, with most baying for the
blood of Azimio Executive Committee Secretary General Junet Mohamed.
The MP however defended him saying;
"There is always somebody who must carry the cross, that is why that cross
was put on Junet's back."
