Azimio to resume anti-government protests on Wednesday, July 19
The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has announced that its anti-government will resume countrywide on Wednesday next week.
Addressing the press on Thursday afternoon, the coalition vowed not to relent in its quest to push the government to lower the cost of
living.
“Our protests will resume on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. In the meantime we proceed with the collection of signatures against Ruto on both digital and manual platforms,” said Wamalwa.
Earlier on
Thursday, ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna had indicated that the
Azimio would hold protests for three consecutive days from Monday to Wednesday
next week.
Sifuna added that the
tri-weekly protests would end only when President William Ruto agrees to review
the contentious Finance Act 2023.
"From next week, three days straight of maandamano, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday until William Ruto understands the people are suffering and repeals this law the same way that he imposed it upon them," he said on Citizen TV’s Day Break show.
On the collection of signatures, the coalition accused the
Communications Authority of Kenya of trying to cripple their digital signature
collection platform.
“We notice the Communications Authority has joined the war
against Kenyans by trying to cripple our digital signature collection platform
but we will fight and soldier on while we put CA on notice. We know the
KK(Kenya Kwanza) regime has panicked and they are trying to block this process."
