The anti-government protests will resume on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, according to the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

Azimio's executive council chairman Wycliffe Oparanya said in a statement on Monday that the resumption was prompted by the Kenya Kwanza coalition's failure to commit to holding constructive bipartisan talks.

Oparanya further noted that Kenya Kwanza has shown no will to address their demands among them tackling the high cost of living.

Kenya Kwanza, he claimed, has instead resorted to "propaganda that the costs have decreased when the facts across Kenya indicate otherwise."

"It is therefore a mockery of the envisaged dialogue to have him at the negotiation table for Kenya Kwanza. Kenya Kwanza has also shown no commitment to lowering the cost of basic goods including unga, fuel, electricity and school fees, read part of the statement.

He also claimed that Kenya Kwanza has repeatedly attempted to include members allied to the Azimio la Umoja on its side, which violates the nation's multiparty democracy.

He was referring to the addition of Edlas MP Adan Keynan to the Kenya Kwanza delegation team, which they claim belongs to Azimio.

"Legally, Hon. Adan Keynan remains an MP on Azimio ticket," read part of the statement.

Azimio, according to Oparanya, remains committed to an extra-parliamentary dialogue that should be "honest, transparent, meaningful, and bipartisan in conception and execution."

The protests, according to Oparanya, will be limited to Nairobi.

Azimio called off their bi-weekly protests on April 2, after President William Ruto welcomed the coalition's leader Raila Odinga to bi-partisan talks and address their grievances.
