Azimio picks Opiyo Wandayi, Junet Mohamed, Stewart Madzayo for Parliamentary leadership
The
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party on Saturday announced its leadership
at the Senate and the National Assembly following a consultative two-day retreat
held at the Stoni Athi Resort in Machakos County.
Kalonzo
Musyoka, one of the coalition’s co principals, announced the leadership changes
at Upper Hill in Nairobi following the conclusion of the caucus that started on
Friday.
"The
group meeting that was held on September 16th and 17th has come to an end. In
the meeting, the Parliamentary group took stock of the state of the nation and
developed its plan for the 13th Parliament," said Kalonzo.
In
the Senate, Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo was announced as the Minority Leader
while his Kitui counterpart Enock Wambua will serve as deputy.
Isiolo
Senator Fatuma Dullo was named the Senate Minority Whip, deputised by Nairobi’s
Edwin Sifuna.
In
the National Assembly, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi clinched the coalition's Majority
Leader slot with Kathiani legislator Robert Mbui as his deputy.
Vocal Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was announced as Majority Whip in the House, while Nominated MP Sabina Chege will serve as his deputy.
Speaker Moses Wetangula now faces the hard task of breaking the stalemate and giving a decision on which is the actual majority side depending on their individual numbers.
