Azimio picks MP Mark Mwenje to replace Sabina Chege as deputy minority whip
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Ugunja MP and Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi announced that the decision was met after the party de-whipped MP Chege from the position on grounds that she has shown allegiance to the ruling government.
The minority leader added that the decision is in furtherance of a Jubilee party National Delegates Conference (NDC) where MP Chege was expelled from the party's leadership.
"Azimio has today settled on Hon. Mark Mwenje as the Deputy Minority Whip of the National Assembly. He will be taking up the position which was left vacant upon the removal of Hon. Sabina Chege about a month ago," he said.
"We recognize him as a committed consistent, energetic and youthful fighter who has shown the will to stand up for the people and fight for the party. We have no doubt he will prove equal to the task."
Wandayi further stated that they want the decision to be enforced by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) Anne Nderitu to bolster the party's representation in the National Assembly.
MP Chege's ejection from the position is however pending clearance from Speaker Moses Wetangula who had declined to okay her removal, urging the coalition to first put their house in order.
