ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja movement has
garnered new members most of whom are from the Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani
National Congress (ANC).
During the Azimio La Umoja, Western Edition conference at
the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County on Friday, Odinga welcomed a host of
political leaders key among them ANC Deputy Party Leader Ayub Savula and
Secretary-General Godfrey Osotsi.
The duo declared in front of an ecstatic crowd that they had
ditched the ANC party.
“Mimi nimeingia leo officially kwenye Azimio La Umoja. Hiyo
kitu inaitwa One Kenya Alliance, kuanzia leo mimi nimetoka hiyo upuzi ya OKA,
nimechoka!,” proclaimed Savula.
On his part, Osotsi said: “Nimekuwa nikicheza mpira na Baba
kando, lakini kuanzia leo mimi nataka kucheza kwa team ya Baba.”
Other legislators who joined Azimio La Umoja were Teso North
MP Ouku Kaunya who also ditched ANC and his Navokholo counterpart Emmanuel
Wangwe from the Jubilee Party.
Ward legislators from Kakamega County who also trooped into
Odinga’s party include Charles Odanga, Protus Wanga, John Musilwa and Godliver
Omondi, all from ANC, as well as Brian Mafunga from FORD Kenya and UDP’s John
Ngome, and 17 others.
Savula’s defection comes barely two weeks after he defended
Mudavadi’s presidential bid, terming it as a key redemption of his political
career and an act of Luhya pride.
“Those people purveying the notion that Musalia is headed to
either Raila or Ruto are doing so for self-seeking," Savula was quoted in
a interview on December 15.
