ATMIS and Kenya reaffirm commitment to supporting stability in Somalia

In the wake of recent conflicts between Somalia and Jubaland which led to surrender and flight of numerous Somalia soldiers to Kenya, Ambassador Kiringo Kubai has reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to supporting stability in both regions.

Speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in the capital, Mogadishu, Ambassador Kubai underscored Kenya’s unwavering support for Somalia’s efforts to combat insecurity.

“Kenya will continue to support Somalia in its fight against terrorism, extremism, and other transnational criminal activities.” Said Kiringo.

Echoing Kenya's commitment, the Head of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, highlighted the broader African commitment to ensuring peace and stability in Somalia. He praised Kenya for its consistent support to the Somalia government and its people.

Hersi Ghani, a senior official in the Somali Prime Minister's Office, also emphasized the importance of fostering unity between the two nations.

He urged Somalis, both in Somalia and Kenya to continue living together in harmony, as they have done for over decades.

The recent violence in Raskamboni, which erupted on Wednesday between Jubaland and Somalia forces, resulted to displacement of Somalia soldiers who sought refuge in Kenya. Kenya has since facilitated their safe return to Somalia through the port of Lamu.
