Arrest warrant issued for Mumias East MP Salasya over Ksh.500K debt
An arrest warrant has been issued against Mumias East MP Peter Salasya for allegedly failing to clear a debt owed to a Kakamega businessman.
Kakamega Small Claims court Adjudicator Caroline Cheruiyot issued the directive after the MP allegedly failed to clear the Ksh.563,000 debt which included Ksh.500,000 he reportedly borrowed from the businessman in 2022 and interest accrued as per the court's evaluation.
Salasya was ordered to clear the debt, owed to businessman Robert Lutta, by the same court in November 2023.
The
businessman had filed a case challenging the legislator to pay the debt allegedly advanced to him on December 13, 2022, with the agreement that he would repay the loan after
two months.
In
his defense, Salasya denied borrowing money from the businessman, instead
claiming that he loaned the claimant Ksh.1 million through his
political advisor Mr. Bernard Kemba.
However,
in her ruling, Magistrate Gladys Kiama dismissed Salasya's argument due to lack
of evidence.
"I
also note that there was nothing to support the allegations that the claimant
borrowed money from the respondent, there was no evidence to support his
claim," she said then.
