Army officers injured in Kirinyaga accident

Nearly 20 army officers were seriously injured after a truck they were travelling in lost control at Gatithi near Kibongoti trading centre along the Sagana-Karatina road in Kirinyaga County.

 

According to Kirinyaga West sub-county police commander Moses Koskei, the truck was heading to Nairobi from Karatina when the accident occurred.

 

"Immediately I was informed about the accident I called my traffic police officers from Sagana police station who rushed to the scene of the accident for now the soldiers have been rushed to  Naji Private Hospital, Kerugoya Hospital and Jamii Karatina Hospital," the police boss said.

 

David Kariuki, one of the eyewitnesses, said he was going to Kibingoti trading centre to buy drugs when the army truck lost control after hitting a bump.

 

Justin Ng'ang'a said that 12 soldiers were rushed to Naji Private Hospital Kibingoti  while 13 were rushed to Karatina Hospital with serious injuries

 

"I have a petrol station here and I rushed to the scene immediately after the accident and helped 12 soldiers who are here at Naji Private Hospital," Ng'ang'a said.

 

Area residents say, however not confirmed, that the truck was carrying 33 officers.


Commander Koskei has that police officers are conducting further probe into the incident.
