Archbishop Muheria urges Raila to call off planned protests
Archbishop Anthony Muheria of the Nyeri Archdiocese
is appealing to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga to soften his
stance and call off the planned mass action protests slated for Monday next
week.
With less than 36 hours before the kick off
of the mass action, Archbishop Muheria says the demos may cause disruptions across
the country, adding that the church is worried by the rising tensions in the
country.
“We’re
concerned about the rising tensions in our country. We are concerned about the
confrontational attitude we’re taking and the ease with which our leaders are
taking us to the road of political incitement, it’s a slippery road to anarchy,”
he said.
The Nyeri Archdiocese Bishop made a
passionate plea to the former Prime Minister to call off the said mega protest.
“We
want to appeal to Raila as a person and the entire leadership of the
opposition, you are in your right to do picketing, but you should not sell to
this country anything that sounds revolutionary in terms of mutiny or bringing
our country to anarchy,” he added.
The pleas from church leaders come as Odinga
and his Azimiocoalition dug in that nationwide protests are on come Monday.
