Archbishop Anyolo condemns rising abductions
The Archbishop expressed deep sorrow, describing it as heartbreaking that many victims of kidnappings remain untraceable despite being within the country’s borders.
Speaking during Family Day at the newly established Holy Family Mugumo Parish in Kiambu County, Archbishop Anyolo called on anti-corruption agencies to intensify their efforts.
He emphasized that the Church has taken a resolute stand against corruption, which he said has severely undermined development and public services in the country.
The Archbishop also urged political leaders to lead by example, steering clear of tribalism, divisive politics, and offensive rhetoric.
In his address, he announced the creation of a new sub-parish, St. Simon Kiroma, under the Holy Family Mugumo Parish.
The sub-parish will focus on fostering development and strengthening the community's spiritual growth.
He further encouraged the faithful to actively support church initiatives and extend help to communities facing various challenges.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised about the apparent lack of accountability for the disappearances.
Although police have denied involvement, activists have criticized their failure to thoroughly investigate the cases.
A report by Human Rights Watch last year implicated a multi-agency security unit in orchestrating some of the abductions.
Just last week, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) revealed that seven new abduction cases were reported this month, with six victims still missing.
Since June last year, a total of 82 disappearances have been reported, and 29 individuals remain unaccounted for, according to the KNCHR.
