'Apologise or be impeached!' MP Osoro tells CS Muturi over abduction stance
Speaking during an education function at Nyamarambe Grounds in South Mugirango, Osoro criticized Muturi for publicly faulting the government instead of addressing the issue directly with President William Ruto in Cabinet meetings.
Osoro outlined three options for Muturi: resign, issue a public apology, or face impeachment when Parliament resumes.
He also dismissed Muturi’s recent claim of his son’s abduction, asserting that the young man was arrested for drug-related activities at a city pub.
The remarks come days after Muturi called for urgent action to tackle the alarming rise in abductions, which he claims have eroded public trust in Kenya’s security apparatus.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, the CS recounted his family's ordeal following the reported abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, in June 2024.
Leslie was reportedly kidnapped in Nairobi’s Lavington area and later released, leaving the Muturi family shaken.
Muturi expressed frustration at the lack of transparency, saying, “I’ve not received any answers as to why my son was abducted, held incommunicado, and no reasons were given for the ordeal.”
Muturi further criticized the government's silence, urging security agencies to provide data on the number of youths abducted, those released, and those still missing.
Human rights organizations have reported over 80 cases of abduction since June 2024, with many victims being government critics.
Among the recent cases are five individuals—Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, Rony Kiplangat, and cartoonist Gideon Kibet—who vanished after criticizing the government online.
Despite mounting pressure, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has maintained that the majority of abduction cases are under investigation and are pending court action. The DCI revealed that only Leslie Muturi has provided a statement about his alleged abduction and urged Justin Muturi and others with information to come forward.
“The alleged case of abduction involving CS Justin Muturi’s son is active before DCI Kilimani. Considering that only the son volunteered to record a statement, we wish to invite CS Muturi and any other person with information on the incident to record a statement with DCI Kilimani,” the agency said in a statement.
The DCI also noted that several inquiry files are nearing completion and will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for action.
