Anybody who will vote against Gachagua will be labelled a traitor – Govenor Kahiga
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has warned that anyone from the region who will vote against impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be labelled a traitor.
Speaking during a Sunday service in Nyeri County, Governor
Kahiga said that the region has declared it’s loyalty to Gachagua and will fully support him in the 2027 polls.
“Hapa hatutaki wasaliti. Kuchukua hicho kiti wewe ni msaliti
na sisi tuko nyuma ya Gachagua. We remain solidly behind him,” Kahiga noted.
The Governor further warned all those who will be awarded Cabinet
Secretary (CS) positions from the region to remain in the nation’s capital,
Nairobi, and not set foot in Nyeri.
He said that the individuals will also be branded as
traitors and will not be welcomed for partnering with the State.
“Kama kuna kti kitalewa Nyeri ni kimoja na ni cha President.
Sisi hatutaki mawaziri. Tunyang’anywe Deputy President tuletewe mawaziri?” he
posed.
Kahiga further urged Gachagua’s political nemesis to desist
from haunting him, stating that he has already left active politics and should
not be a victim of political enmity.
He referenced to the attack meted on Gachagua in Limuru on Thursday,
November 28 when a group of armed goons disrupted and attacked attendees.
“If you see us being silent leave us alone, we are following
what we have been told to do. If he says we speak then we will but for now he
has said we remain quiet. You impeached him now leave him alone,” he said.
In an interview with NTV, Gachagua described the attack as a "well-planned attempt on my life," citing the lack of uniformed police officers and the withdrawal of his security detail a week before.
He also alleged that police in unmarked Subarus blocked vehicles attempting to leave the funeral.
He alleged that senior county security officials met at Tigoni Police Station the day before and decided to provide a "safe corridor" for the attackers.
Gachagua’s impeachment has since caused jitters in the
political arena, dividing leaders into factions as some have defended Gachagua
while others have lauded President William Ruto for the move.
