Ann Kananu to be sworn in as Nairobi Governor on Tuesday

Anne Kananu Mwenda is now set to be sworn in as the Governor of Nairobi City County on Tuesday, November 16, at the Kenyatta International Conventional Centre (KICC).

A Gazette Notice issued by Jairus Musumba, the chairman of the committee on Assumption of Office of the County Governor, indicated that Kananu will be sworn in at the KICC COMESA grounds from 10am.

Her swearing-in comes after the court dismissed an appeal by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko seeking to stop Kananu from being sworn in as Nairobi Governor.

“The court, we conclude lacks jurisdiction to entertain the application,” read part of the ruling.

Supreme Court judges noted that with the absence of a judgment of the court of appeal the application by Sonko is premature and does not meet the threshold of the Constitution.

Sonko wanted the Supreme Court to prohibit the swearing-in of Kananu as Nairobi Governor pending hearing and determination of his appeal.
