Angry Syokimau residents force MCA to walk through muddy roads
Angry residents of Syokimau/Mlolomgo Ward on
Thursday forced their Member of County Assembly (MCA) to wade through muddy
roads in a bid to show the deplorable state of the estate.
This comes just a day after Citizen TV visited
the area and found out that most roads which were constructed barely nine
months ago are impassible, with motorists forced to drive through huge gulleys.
In videos shared on social media on Thursday,
the area residents – mostly composed of boda boda riders - can be seen forcing their
MCA Daniel Mutinda, who is in a suit and official shoes, to also tread the same
paths and witness their frustrations first-hand.
“Hakuna mwenye anampiga, tutembee tu,” one
voice can be heard saying in the videos. At some point, when the road gets too
muddy and MCA Mutinda tries to resist, the same voice mockingly and
sarcastically telling him, “MCA tembea, barabara zetu ni mzuri.”
Citizen TV, in a spotlight conducted on
Wednesday, found that Chaddy road, an 800 meter stretch of road off Airport
Road in Syokimau estate, which was constructed under the Kenya Urban Roads Authority
in late 2023, is now completely worn out.
It is a nightmare for motorists along the
road that leads to Mwananchi road in Syokimau, Machakos County.
Motorists, boda boda riders and pedestrian told
of the nightmare they have to endure everyday.
The story was the same along the newly
completed Chaddy section two and Mwananchi roads where the contractors left without
any walk way or drainage. The results, the roads which are barely three months
old are wearing out.
Ironically, one road leading to a hospital,
which has been under construction for 20 years without completion, a police
station, and a chief's office also remains desolate.
Public transport vehicles plying the route
told of struggles to make any profit from the business.
