Anger, disbelief after Pastor Ng'ang'a shares shocking rape 'jokes' to congregation
The Neno Evangelism Centre founder, on Sunday January 19 came under from a section of Kenyans after appearing to mock women who, according to him, were obsessed with beauty trends but were still unattractive.
Ng'ang'a, while addressing an unusually mute congregation, tore into women with a penchant for using cosmetics to enhance their beauty, going as far as suggesting that even after all the effort, they were still unattractive and wouldn't even be good enough to rape.
"You take too much time beautifying yourself and then spend an entire day and no one even bothers approach you. Women are getting raped and you couldn't even get someone who could rape you," he said.
Ng'ang'a went on to mock these type of women, appearing to shockingly suggest that it would have been much more reasonable if they would, at least, be raped as proof of their attractiveness.
"It would be better if you would be raped. But no one is doing that to you. You don't have anyone to rape you, no one to hit on you...and if they hit on you, they're just playing around with you, " he mocks.
"And yet you took two hours in front of a mirror fixing yourself. The problem is not on the outside... It's in the inside..."
While he blatantly makes the statement, the congregation appears to be visibly shocked and speechless - devoid of the usually loud pomp and hurrah which accompanies some of his most controversial pronouncements.
The undated video hit the internet and Kenyans on X were quick to register their disgust with many calling out the preacher for his coarse language and others even going as far as suggesting that he should be arrested for making such an inflammatory statement.
X user Natasha wrote, "I keep saying that women in Kenya are in hell. Patriarchy is so embedded into society. At some point, it really remains a question if the Kenyan man is salvageable."
Someone else wrote, "This is not just inappropriate! It's deeply disturbing! It’s unfathomable that anyone would make light of something so serious! Rape is not something to joke about! As a rape victim myself, I shudder when I come across such language. This is highly triggering."
On her part, Rose Nyaboke said, "This is actually so disgusting! I'm so shocked I even thought this was AI cause ain’t no way he actually said this. Religion in its purest form isn’t horrible, but people misuse it, prey on their congregations and use the platform to propagate stupid stuff like this!"
"The saddest thing is that his own wife sat there all through and watched her husband say this," another disappointed Kenyan noted. "And his female congregants too, who make the bulk of his members, also sat there and helplessly watched as he made these threats. This man is insufferable!"
Pastor Ng'ang'a, no stranger to controversy, has often been called out for his sexist statements and careless opinions especially on women.
For example, when castigating random people he has differences with, he normally urges them to go ask their mothers who is their boyfriend, appearing to suggest that he has had sexual relations with the mothers of his critics.
"Uliza mama yako boyfriend yake ni nani. Your mother is my girlfriend. Ask your mother where she was in 1968... I was with her. I am your father..." he recently said as he told off detractors.
