AMG Foundation opens its largest library in Nanyuki to empower education

The AMG Foundation, through its Empower Future Lives initiative, has launched its fourth library—the largest yet—in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.

This new facility, located in the Majengo area, an informal settlement near Cedar Mall, boasts a seating capacity of 200 and is a testament to the collective contributions of AMG Realtors’ customers.

The library is a product of the September campaign A Plot for You, A Library for Them, which sought to provide educational resources to underserved communities. For every Ksh 100,000 invested during the campaign, 12 books were purchased, and for every Ksh 500,000 invested, a computer was acquired.

“With over 5,000 books collected, this dream has become a reality,” said AMG Chief Executive Officer Martin Githinji. To recognize contributors, a Wall of Fame has been installed in the library, featuring the names of all who made this milestone possible.

AMG Foundation libraries are strategically located in shopping centres rather than schools to ensure accessibility for everyone—not just students. Library services are provided free of charge.

This new library follows successful launches in Kibera, Kagunduini, and Githumu in Murang’a County. Collectively, these facilities have distributed over 10,000 textbooks and learning tools, equipped with more than 36 computers and tablets connected to the internet.

“These resources help bridge educational gaps, especially for families unable to afford the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC),” said Githinji. “We are committed to Global Goal 4 on Quality Education, ensuring inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

AMG Foundation Chairman Andrew Gitau emphasized the library’s role in fostering equality through knowledge. “Knowledge is the great equalizer, uniting people regardless of their background. The shift from the 8-4-4 system to CBC is a heavy burden for many parents. We aim to supplement government efforts by providing essential textbooks and learning spaces,” Gitau said.

“This library is more than an AMG achievement—it’s a hub for learning, dreaming, and growing. It’s a foundation for building brighter futures.”

Laikipia County Governor Joseph Irungu praised the initiative, noting its impact on local families.

“Many children in this area lack access to books or library services, as their parents often can’t afford them. This library, equipped with a range of curriculum materials, is a lifeline for our community. We are deeply grateful to AMG Foundation.”

The libraries in Githumu and Kagunduini already experience an average monthly attendance of 500 students, a number that continues to grow as these facilities positively transform their communities.

The AMG Foundation’s efforts underline its commitment to closing educational gaps and empowering underserved communities through accessible, high-quality learning resources.
