The names, published on Friday by the Selection Panel feature prominent individuals among them former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi and former chairman of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) Charles Nyachae.
Others on the list for IEBC Chairperson candidates are Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan, Edward Katama Ngeywa, Erastus Edung Ethekon, Francis Kakai Kissinger, Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo, Jacob Ngwele Muvengei, Lilian Wanjiku Manegene, Robert Akumu Asembo, and Saul Simiyu Wasilwa.
In addition, the panel has also published a list of 105 individuals shortlisted for nomination as IEBC commissioners.
The shortlisted candidates will undergo oral interviews from Monday, March 24, 2025, to Thursday, April 2025, at the College of Insurance in South C, Nairobi.
"Members of the public are invited to submit, in writing and under oath, any information relevant to the suitability of the shortlisted applicants to serve as Chairperson or Member of the IEBC," the notice from Dr. Nelson Makanda, Chairperson of the Selection Panel, reads in part.
The process to fill the IEBC vacancies began on March 1, 2023, when the President gazetted the vacancies for the position of Chairperson and six commissioners following the end of their tenure. However, the recruitment and gazettement of the IEBC selection panel faced a nearly two-year delay, sparking public outcry. The process resumed on January 27, 2025, when President William Ruto appointed a seven-member panel to oversee the recruitment.
On February 16, 2025, the IEBC Selection Panel announced that it had received 1,848 applications for both the Chairperson and Commissioner positions.
The IEBC leadership positions became vacant on January 16, 2023, following the exit of Chairperson Wafula Chebukati and Commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu, whose six-year terms had expired. Meanwhile, former Vice Chair Juliana Cherera and Commissioners Irene Masit, Justus Nyang’aya, and Francis Wanderi were dismissed from the commission after disputing the 2022 presidential election results.
